Course philosophy & background

A course covering topics in paediatric infection for Paediatric Infectious Diseases trainees and trainers and for all those who manage children with infections.

Training objectives

The course is designed to be concordant with the European training syllabus in PID.

The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health has accredited the course 20 CPD points.

Payment - registration fees and accommodation

The registration fee includes: 3 day lecture programme, all course materials, lunch and dinner on Monday and Tuesday, lunch on Wednesday and all refreshments.  It does not include the cost of accommodation.

ESPID/BPAIIG/PIDS members registering after 1 January 2009   £525.00

Non-member registering after 1 January 2009   £575.00

Accommodation at Keble College is £70.00 for bed and breakfast per person per night (book rooms only through this website payment facility)

Where to stay

We can offer bed and breakfast accommodation at Keble College for the nights of  29 and 30 June. We also have a limited amount of accommodation available for Sunday night, 28 June (only a few remaining for Sunday).                       Rooms are comfortable single study bedrooms with en-suite facilities and are available at £70 per night, booking only through this on-line payment facility and not direct with the college.

§         There are no twin, double or family rooms available and there are no facilities for children.

§         Evenings meals are provided Monday & Tuesday only.
 

Transport and parking

College map and directions.  Delegates are expected to make their own travel arrangements. There is no parking at the College. Oxford city operates a park and ride scheme for visitors from outside the area, two of which you can park at for up to 72 hours free of charge. There is also parking in the city centre operated by Oxford City Council although this is very expensive.

There are very good bus links from Heathrow (departing every 20 mins) and Gatwick (departing hourly) airports to Oxford and return.  http://www.oxfordbus.co.uk/main.php?page_id=23  Journey times from Heathrow are approx 1.5 hours and from Gatwick 2.5 hours.

Insurance

We strongly advise that you take out travel insurance for the entire period you will be traveling and attending the course, which includes cancellation or curtailment cover.

APPLICATIONS FOR  BURSARIES FOR TRAINEES ONLY

There are a number of sponsored places for trainees only, including some provided by ESPID for ESPID members. We especially welcome applications from trainees from resource-poor countries (list of qualifying countries available on ESPID website). Closing date for bursary application is 1 February 2009.

In order to be considered for a trainees bursary, please send an email to the course administrator Sue Sheaf (iic@paediatrics.ox.ac.uk) by 1 Feb 2009 stating your name, age, country working in, job title (specify what you are currently training in), contact details and indicate if you are a member of ESPID, BPAIIG or PIDS.  You must provide all the above information in order to be put forward for consideration.

Course book

All delegates attending the 2009 course will receive a free copy of the proceedings of IIC 2009, posted direct to them from the publisher, which will be published in the summer/autumn of 2010.

These books are based on the course and are aimed at encouraging excellence in clinical practice and raising the profile of paediatric infectious disease, with a particular eye on the needs of trainees in the specialty. You will find in these books a wealth of state of the art information about various aspects of paediatric infectious diseases, written by leading authorities in the field.
